Friends of the IFPS
A project for the individual membership in the International Federation of Psychoanalytic Societies

The IFPS - as its name is marking - is a federation of societies. The members are institutions.

Recently, an additional model of membership was discussed. It regards the the possibility to join the IFPS on the basis of an individual membership as a psychoanalyst. This model was discussed at the last Forum in Athens in October 2010.

The reason for this discussion is the announcement of the German Society DPG and the definite decision by the Swedish Psychoanalytical Association to leave the IFPS. 

We are convinced that the loss of an affiliation to the IFPS is a great loss for many colleagues within those societies. They - like ourselves - have appreciated the IFPS as a scientific and personal international platform, which has provided the possibility to scientific exchange and an international belonging.

On this background it was decided to investigate the interest and formal possibilities and consequences for an individual membership in the IFPS among colleagues belonging to societies that have left IFPS, but also among other colleagues who have equal training and experience and who are interested in the ideas of the IFPS.

Please let us know if your are interested in a group with the working name "Friends of the IFPS". Our intention is to find an access  for individuals to join the Federation after the next Forum in Mexico City in October 2012.
